9. I understand Mr. Bourdillon will be attending the meeting of the Colonial University Grants Advisory Committee on the 27th at which the informal application for C.D. & W. assistance forms an item on the Agenda. He may like to see these papers before that meeting. I pass also through Mr. Cox.

The Foreign Office joined with us in our approach to the Treasury for
assistance from H. M. G. towards the 1946 Committee's scheme for an extended University and we have kept them informed of developments since that approach was
turned down e. g. the Secretary of State's written answer of the 7th April and the simultaneous statement in Hong Kong were agreed with them (see Mr. Mayle's minute of 10/3). We should in any case give them the opportunity of commenting on our proposed telegram to Hong Kong, and particularly if it includes any reference to increasing British prestige in the Far East.
